Arbaeen of Imam Hussain (as) and other Martyrs of Karbala

The day of Arbaeen is the 20th of the month of Safar. It marks 40 days after the Martyrdom of Imam Hussain (a) on Ashoor, the 10th day of Muharram. It is the day when the Ahlulbayt (a) arrived in Karbala and Imam Sajjad (a) and the ladies mourned for their loved ones.

Imam Sajjad (a) buried the heads with the bodies of the martyrs on the day of Arbaeen, 20 Safar.

Bibi Zainab (s) and the ladies of the family wept continuously. They sobbed at the graves of their dear ones. They recalled all that had happened on the day of Ashoor.

It was the Arbaeen of Hazrat Imam Hussain (a). It was the Arbaeen of the King of the Martyrs, who was killed hungry and thirsty on the burning sands of Karbala. All the ladies gathered around his grave and kept weeping.

It was the Arbaeen of the sons of Imam Hussain (a). It was the Arbaeen of 18 years old Hazrat Ali Akbar (a), the image of the Holy Prophet, renowned as the Shabeehay Payamabar. His mother Bibi Umme Laila (s) was shedding tears.

It was Arbaeen of 6 months old Hazrat Ali Asghar (a). His mother Bibi Umme Rabaab (s) wanted to spend rest of her life in Karbala.
She cried ‘Leave me in Karbala.
My Maula Hussain & my baby Asghar is here. I’ve left my Sakina in Damascus. What do I have in Madina to go back to?’

It was the Arbaeen of the Family of Imam Hussain (a).

It was the Arbaeen of his brother, Hazrat Abbas (a), buried by the riverbank. His widow Bibi Lubaba (s) cried and told him that his favourite niece Sakina (s) had died in the prison.

It was the Arbaeen of his 13 years old nephew Hazrat Qasim (a), the gem of Imam Hasan’s family. He was mourned by his mother Bibi Umme Farwa (s).

It was the Arbaeen of Hazrat Aun (a) and Mohamad (a), the lion-hearted sons of Bibi Zainab (s).

It was the Arbaeen of the Companions of Imam Hussain (a). It was the Arbaeen of Habeeb ibn Mazahir, the Imam’s childhood friend. It was the Arbaeen of Muslim ibn Ausaja a noble companion of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (s). It was the Arbaeen of Wahab, Zohair, Aabis and Jaun.

It was the Arbaeen of Nafi ibn Hilal who had been with Imam Ali (a) in the battles of Jamal, Siffeen and Nahrawan. It was the Arbaeen of Hurr who joined the Imam on the morning of Ashoor.

In fact it was the Arbaeen of all who fought for truth with Imam Hussain (a) on Ashoor.
